This guide will show you how to configure your devices to work with your new email accounts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" id=\"iosupdate\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apple updates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, after an update on your iOS or macOS device, your emails will suddenly stop working. These updates sometimes occur in the background without any user input.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find more information on this <a href=\"https:\/\/christianwebhost.com\/support\/email-help-guides\/email-apple-updates\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"71\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#top\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" id=\"start\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you start<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t already, you will want to create an email address with your email hosting account. You can find information on that process <a href=\"https:\/\/christianwebhost.com\/support\/email-help-guides\/email-accounts\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1133\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will first need to ensure you have the correct password for the account. You can test this by trying to log into your <a href=\"https:\/\/christianwebhost.com\/support\/email-help-guides\/webmail-access\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"948\">webmail<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do not know your hosting service password, you can log into your <a href=\"https:\/\/christianwebhost.com\/support\/customer-account-dashboard\/accessing-your-hosting-services\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1626\">hosting service<\/a> and update it there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#top\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" id=\"add-account\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adding an Account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the steps to follow if you are adding an account that is currently not set up on your iOS device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Open your <strong>Settings<\/strong> app<\/li><li>Tap <strong>Mail<\/strong><\/li><li>In the <strong>Accounts<\/strong> section, tap <strong>Add Account\u2026<\/strong><\/li><li>Tap <strong>Other<\/strong><\/li><li>Tap <strong>Add Mail Account<\/strong><\/li><li>Fill in the requested information<ul><li><strong>Name<\/strong> \u2013 this will be the name that shows on your sent emails<\/li><li><strong>Email<\/strong> \u2013 your email address<\/li><li><strong>Password<\/strong> \u2013 your email password<\/li><li><strong>Description<\/strong> \u2013 this is a description of the account on the device, it is not server specific and can be whatever you like<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Tap <strong>Next<\/strong><\/li><li>You should now see your account settings screen<\/li><li>Choose <strong>IMAP<\/strong> (keep messages synced to server) or <strong>POP<\/strong> (download and store messages locally). See here for more information on <a href=\"https:\/\/christianwebhost.com\/support\/email-help-guides\/popvsimap\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"52\">POP vs IMAP<\/a>.<\/li><li>In the <strong>Incoming Mail Server<\/strong> section, fill in the following settings<ul><li><strong>Host Name<\/strong> \u2013 mail.example.com (replace example.com with your domain)<\/li><li><strong>User Name<\/strong> \u2013 your email address (you need to include the @example.com)<\/li><li><strong>Password<\/strong> \u2013 your email password<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Enter the same information in the <strong>Outgoing Mail Server<\/strong> section. Note: It may say the username and password are optional, but we recommend entering them in here.<\/li><li>Tap <strong>Save<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You may see one (or a few) warning popups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Secure Connection Failed &#8211;<\/strong> tap <strong>Continue<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Cannot Connect Using SSL- Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?<\/strong> &#8211; Choose <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>You may not be able to send or receive mail \u2013<\/strong> tap <strong>Continue<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Congratulations!<\/strong> You\u2019ve just added your email account to your iOS device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#top\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" id=\"update-account\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Updating an Account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your email is already added to your device, but you are having issues sending or receiving mail, or if you are getting plagued with popups saying <strong>Unable to Verify Certificate<\/strong>, you may need to adjust your incoming and outgoing mail settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessing the email account settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To get to the email account settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Open your <strong>Settings<\/strong> app<\/li><li>Tap <strong>Mail<\/strong><\/li><li>In the <strong>Accounts<\/strong> section, tap on your email address<\/li><li>You may now see the email address with some toggles for <strong>Mail<\/strong> and <strong>Notes<\/strong>, tap the email address (this screen does not always show up)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: If you are having issues with both incoming and outgoing mail, it is better to update the incoming settings first and then work on the outgoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Incoming settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you get the email account settings, you should see the <strong>Account Information<\/strong>. Take note if the grey section says either \u201c<strong>POP<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>IMAP<\/strong>\u201d <strong>Account Information<\/strong>. This will affect which port you use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>First, check the <strong>POP or IMAP Account Information<\/strong><ul><li><strong>Name<\/strong> &#8211; this will be the name shown on your sent emails<\/li><li><strong>Email<\/strong> \u2013 this is your email address (this is greyed out and cannot be changed)<\/li><li><strong>Description<\/strong> \u2013 this is a description of the account on the device, it is not server specific and can be whatever you like<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Next, check the Incoming Mail Server section<ul><li><strong>Host Name<\/strong> \u2013 mail.example.com (replace example.com with your domain name)<\/li><li><strong>User Name<\/strong> &#8211; your email address<\/li><li><strong>Password<\/strong> &#8211; your email password (it is best to delete the dots and enter your password again)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Scroll down to the bottom and tap <strong>Advanced<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Scroll down to the Incoming Settings section.<ul><li><strong>Use SSL<\/strong> \u2013 this should be on<\/li><li><strong>Authentication<\/strong> &#8211; must be set to the word Password (not your email password)<\/li><li><strong>IMAP Path Prefix<\/strong> (if using IMAP) &#8211; leave this at the default setting<\/li><li><strong>Delete from server<\/strong> (if using POP) &#8211; this is a personal preference<\/li><li><strong>Server Port<\/strong> &#8211; 993 for IMAP, 995 for POP<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once you are satisfied that these settings are all correct, return to the main account settings screen by tapping back in the upper left<\/li><li>Click <strong>Done<\/strong> in the upper right to verify the changes.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outgoing settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have your incoming settings working, you then want to check the outgoing settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Scroll down to the bottom of the account settings screen and tap <strong>SMTP<\/strong><\/li><li>Tap on the server listed directly below <strong>Primary Server<\/strong><\/li><li>You should now see the outgoing (<strong>SMTP<\/strong>) settings<ul><li><strong>Server<\/strong> &#8211; this should be on, but leave it for now<\/li><li><strong>Host Name<\/strong> &#8211; mail.example.com (replace example.com with your domain)<\/li><li><strong>User Name<\/strong> &#8211; your email address<\/li><li><strong>Password<\/strong> &#8211; your email address password<\/li><li><strong>Use SSL<\/strong> &#8211; this should be on<\/li><li><strong>Authentication<\/strong> &#8211; must be set to the word Password (not your email password)<\/li><li><strong>Server Port<\/strong> \u2013 465<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Tap <strong>Done<\/strong> in the upper right. This will cause the device to verify the outgoing server.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Once verified, you should be able to send mail and be good to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#top\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#top\">Back to Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" id=\"not-working\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Still not working!!!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few tricks to try if the account settings are still not working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ensure that there are no emails stuck in your outbox and then restart the device. Sometimes mail stuck in the mailbox with stop the settings from getting updated<\/li><li>If the verification process seems to be taking a long time, then it has most likely failed. You may want to close the settings and try again.<\/li><li>If you are on a cellular device, sometimes you cannot update and test the settings while talking on the device. You may want to try again once done with your call.<\/li><li>The final option is to remove the email address from the device and add it again. While there are no issues doing this with an IMAP account, there is a possibility of losing mail in a POP account that was on the device and not on the server. You will want to make sure that there is not any important mail on the device that are not in your webmail before removing the account.
